Just a little update

Finally done with Dreamwerkz The Big Idea production!! Been busy with it since like 2/3 months ago and on full force with it a month ago. Like what trainings on both weekends?! It was crazy leaving school at like 11.30+.

Didn't wanna join it in the first place but yay I managed to get it over and done with. So thankful for the friends I had along this whole journey, thanks for being my strength to pass through it because I know that I'm not in it alone.

And when I thought I was done with wearing wigs for productions ever from elders concert, but oh hi you need to be a bimbo with a blonde wig. Fml. Once again thank godness that it didn't fall out on stage apparently elders concert has trained me to be a professional wig dancer. Wearing wig to dance is not small matter man, all the amount of bobby pins in your hair...

So thankful for everyone that have came down for the show you know I love ya'll 💕

Till the next production, if there is even one,
xoxo with loves,
Joey 💕

Lia Kim & Mina Myoung Workshop in Singapore

Finally, Lia's back for more dance workshops and Mina's here for the first time to teach in Singapore! Decided to attend, /moneyfly, but it was such an experience that can't be bought with money.

Honoured and so happy to have helped them both in their workshops, can't wait for them to be here in Singapore again! Mina's actually very cute and friendly if you get to know her more and Lia's English was better than her last visit!

see ya'll soon ~ <3

GEM10; the last emotional ride

GEM 10 was my last gem recital with TPDE, not counting the alumni concert that I'll be doing in Aug/Sep.

Well it started badly, because of the number of items I've got. But then I found out that quite a number of us only had an item each. (what is fair.)

Was so disappointed in myself when I look at my item allocation. I read them on the train, literally I feel like crying in public. Wtf is this.
Was conflicting with myself if I should join this time or not, but I joined in the end.
Oh wells.

It was quite a breeze. But I really do not get how people can just skip training because "I have presentation the next day", "I have submissions to rush".
Like hello,

who doesn't have presentations and submissions?
Whats more, if the year 3s with their final projects/presentations are able to make it for training,
what excuses does the rest have.

Then again, it's the last time.

To this two auntie and uncle;
Thanks for entrusting me to clean the whole item. I know its very hard to get everyone
together and clean (xiao omg), but then we did it!
Ya'll so bad sia, just before our item for the last show why must give us handwritten letters.
Hope that we've did you guys proud <3

To my item people,
Ni hao, thanks for enduring me whenever I clean you guys.
Also at the same time, this has also forced me to work with people I like and dont,
but I guess they all say there will always be some shit people somewhere.
Proud of ya'll, last show got feel. <3

To those who came,
爱你们 ^O^

To my batchies,
We did it.

My Dance Journey: Kpop

Yoyo, its back for more of my dance journey, its now the Kpop dance side!
I've started to know about Kpop in 2009 aka Sorry Sorry era.
I started to know about Kpop because of Boys Over Flowers, RMD even bought me a BOF OST album LOL.
I got to know SuperJunior through Yoboie YongWenXin, she introduced me to SJ. Nawwww.
She only hears SJ songs though, while I listen to the songs of most groups, unless the latest songs by those rookie groups. Sorry.
Then I introduced Kpop to the people around me slowly, AHHAHA sorry too bad.
My whole i-tunes consists of 70% Kpop, 20% classical Mpop and 10% some English songs that I know of.

 otp ftw <3

Anyways, I didn't like to watch/perform Kpop dances in front of people in the past.
As in, I dance to Kpop in my room or when I'm alone but to people, nah its okay.
But then RMD was supposed to perform 'Nobody' for Teacher's Day 2009.
It was a short one, more of a comedy for my dear Erica ;) to 'shine' but I guess it was the first time I performed Kpop in front of people.
Then slowly when I was still in Wanna Studio, Teacher Eileen asked me and Charlene to teach the kids during their Christmas Party and some during some performance.
We did The Boys and Abracadabra respectively.

And I also went for classes at Celine Jessandra, for K-Hiphop open classes.
Simply, using Kpop songs to dance Hiphop LOL.
That was when I was in Sec 4?
Celine Jessandra also had their open house promotions, where they open their classes to people at a promotion price, that time I went I think it was $8 per lesson.
I went twice for the open house promotions, once with the Kids at Wanna Studio, the other with Sherlyane then Shufen.
It was such a loooooooooooooong time ago.

Celine Jessandra also had a Kpop overnight dance off event, Kpop before the dawn, where I went with my brother as Sherlyane was one of the competitors in year 1.
Oh and also with Amanda and BingXiang, which I met them at the venue itself.
The event had a highlight of Deoksher, who is the Regional Dance Choreographer for SHINee, T-ara, B.A.P, Bang & Zelo, After School and many more, teaching the crowd some dance.
OPPPAOPPPA OMGOMGOMG
He started teaching the dance without on-ing the song so everyone was like what song is this.
As he continued, it was so familiar but I didn't know which song was it, then omg OPPAOPPA OMG.
/fangirls
Was very honored to be chosen and get to dance with him on stage for oppaoppa as in omg look at him.

Then I went to Brave Dancers Studio.
Because Deoksher was one of the instructors there, but I didn't even attend his class even once LOL.
Another reason was because Karen's friend is also an instructor under BD, teaching waccking so she asked me to purchase the one month unlimited dance pass.
So I went for IGAB lessons, Special Girl lessons, Waccking with Catlady and Contempt Jazz with Amin.

Then, after that I went for crew auditions for Studio De S in year 2.
Initially I went because they said you can share a stage with SNSD, but apparently no wtf.
/igotscammed
I got in the crew and then they say there is going to be a performance, I'm like woah. chill guys.
But I couldn't make it for the first training due to Dreams Modern Training, thus I went for the second one and I swear it was soooooooo awkward.
I knew NOBODY 没有人 in the whole crew.
I asked Shufen to join with me she don't want so I'm a awkward turtle in the crew like walao.

And then their trainings will start at 8.30 and end at 10.30 but you know dancers never end their practices on time so 11. and the studio is at Chinatown someone save me.
The first performance I was only involved in one song, Whats Your Name.
Initially Growl too but I declined.
And then they slowly had more performances which I couldn't make it because of GEM.
And this was my second performance in DeS  LMAO.

Then I came across a facebook advert about the Korean Night Festival competition.
WHICH CLEARLY STATE THE WINNER WILL GET TO REPRESENT SINGAPORE IN KOREA.
/igotscammed AGAIN
So I asked Yan about it and she also wanted to join.
So she created the whatsapp group and so and so for, we got ready for auditions.

And then slowly finals.

The whole road was not easy, everyone had their own commitments and I swear we seriously have communication problems LMAO.
You can watch 1.43-1.45 where my members keep mimicking my reaction. oi.

So basically no, we're not confirmed going to Korea.
We need to be the top 15 of the teams for Kpop World Festival 2014 determined by video views, online voting and professional markings.
So WATCH LAI LAI.

xoxo

My Dance Journey- Modern & Hiphop

Yoyo, its back to my looooooong dance journey and it's now the Modern & Hip hop side yo.
Okay so in Primary School, I was in Contempt for awhile in p1.
But I have no idea why did I stop.
I even bought the ballet shoes and I have no idea why did I stop.
It was for quite a short while.
So after that I've not touched dance until I touched Latin.
And then I've joined Modern Dance in Secondary school.
Hougang Sec's modern dance is a modern version of Chinese dance. /get it?
Our instructors are all china instructors.
And so our modern dance's a more modern Chinese dance. Yes jiu jiang.

During secondary school other than Hs modern dance, I've also joined my darlings in RMD.
It was supposingly Representing Modern Dance but we didn't want to use our cca name so Ardella quoted Rhythm Meets Dance. 🎉
Tada, RMD is formed.
Our first performance was for Teacher's day, when I was in Sec 1.
We'll do all sorts of crazy things for our trainings.
Meeting up in classes during recess for training, going all the way to queenstown for training, hogging the Music room during recess for training.
Oh wow the memories.
Then as we go along, we've joined different competitions and performance (more like Teacher's Day only).
And it was the first few times that I had trainings till late at night.
We're now too busy in our lives that we only meet once/twice a year.
Other than those in TPDE and Ophila, I rarely meet the rest.
And we're forever saying that we're going to have steamboat at someone's house but we forever cannot make it.
Awwww, miss them so much 💕

Okay so after HS, I got in to TP.
I registered for Modern with Colleen and I registered for Hiphop alone.
I have no idea what did I do for modern auditions lmao.
For my freestyle I just turned and turned and anyhow whack. Lmao
And for Hiphop, I went alone.
Sighs what is life.
Again for the auditions, I didnt know what was I doing.
And I can still remember it was a public holiday for the auditions. AHAHAHAHAHAH.
Who goes for an audition in school on a Public holiday? /me

So I got into both TPDE modern and hiphop.
And I swear the commitment level is crazy.
The first was STL, I really had difficulties in both genres.
I didn't have any modern/hiphop basics.
(HS modern is not literally modern dance)
So I was thinking of pulling out of my hiphop item.
I couldn't really pull out of my modern as there was only 4 people including me and I'm so happy that all 4 of us stayed through tpde. /hugs M4/
But like after talking to those in my hiphop item, I decided to stay and thus I cried a lot after STL when the choreographers 'debriefed' us.
Sorry, my crying point very low. 哭点低.

And so after STL, everyone in tpde had cliques and all while I was a lost sheep.
Colleen by then had quited modern and I had to go to modern classes alone.
I was really NOT motivated to go for classes alone since modern had 2 major cliques and I'm not in either of them.
And so I didn't.
The same goes for hiphop, even though the hiphop side is not as clique-ish but erm how to say, I don't really like to socialize so I'm a awkward turtle. /awkwardddddd
As time goes, I slowly didn't go for hiphop classes and I didn't attend Modern classes at all.

After STL was gem8, my first dance production.
I was only in one hiphop item, and not in the year 1 modern item.
Because of my attendance lmao.
Oh well, embrace it because that one hiphop item was good.
So through that item, I kinda clique well with the item people and yay I've closer friends in tpde!
/lmao
Hi YiTing and Limjing I love ya'll, ya'll know right. 💕
There are other closer friends as well but not that close.
And so after gem 8, I started to went for classes again.
Oh well not as much for modern but I make it a point to attend all the hiphop lessons.

And then Insync, was my first dark themed modern item and my second hh with Jeremy and co. 😂
In the same hh as Yiting, Limjing and Stef again. Ew. AHAHAHHAHAHA. <3
And was supposed to drop insync due to my world issues test which was happening on the same day as insync but insync was in the morning while my test was in the afternoon.

And after Insync was... Dreams.
Where all the year 2s batchmates come together and put up a performance for dreams, a production with other tp performing arts.
Dreams was short and sweet.
How we get to bond more as a batch, the trainings, crazy quick change and etc.
The quick change is crazy.
Like crazy.
On the actual performance, I didn't even get to wear my socks out. Lmao.
But it was really short and sweet and I was surprised I didn't cry.

After dreams was Gem9, voices.
I had two items, hh and joyan modern.
When I knew I had a modern item and especially in Joyan's item, I was really happy.
Like I really really like Joyan's style and their choreography's really nice. /fangirls
And I was in Yoshi's hh item but it got cancelled also I was in Junwei's item.
Gem9 was truthfully not as fun as Gem8 but the experiences was great.
And especially the mass part of Joyan's item, can feel everyone on the stage, the feeling is omg one.
The feeling is really really touching and nice and can cry.
I cried inside a little because can feel that everyone in the item was together at that one move.
Thanks Joyan item people. 💕

And so after gem, I've been going for oschool's street jazz classes with Karen-ly and I've been wanting to go for Ryan's modern class but that burden abit don't like. Zzzzz.
Anyways, its a new AY and I can't wait for modern classes to start. Its been so so so so so long.
Ooops, sorry.

Lots of Love;
Joey

My Dance Journey- Latin American Ballroom

Dancing is in my life since I was in P5.
Involved in different genres of dance, I literally dance everyday.
I'm in TPDE Modern & Hiphop genres, in DeS doing Kpop dances and competing in competitive Latin American Ballroom dances.

Latin American Ballroom dances consists of 10 dances, we sometimes call it dance sports too.
Latin side with ChaChaCha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble & Jive
While the ballroom side with Quickstep, Waltz, Vietnamese Waltz, Tango & Foxtrot.
Salsa is NOT under Latin American Ballroom.
Thank you.
If you've watched Dancing with the stars, yes those dances.

Sorry LQ Picture

I started when I was in P5, if I didn't remember wrongly, Latin dances at Chong Pang CC.
We went to this open house and the kids there were performing the Latin dances and my mom sign up for me and my brother for classes.
It was under Teacher Eileen, and the kids there were kids.
I was just 11 and I was one of the oldest.
Oh well.
The pace at the CC lessons were so slow.
Like seriously, with four classes you can't even finish like half a dance omg.
And I remember there was once where some publisher came to the class and our whole class was used for the photo shoot and in the end only the youngest couple was featured.
Oh wow.
So the pace was really slow and its either I asked my mom to pull out or she pulled us out of the class.

And I went to this other CC to learn instead.
What to do with my parents (my mom mainly) and their obsessions with CCs.
I went to the Sengkang one, this time was under Jonathan.
And my brother and I were the youngest couple in this CC classes.
We learnt more of social dances in this CC.
Some social dances are Obit Chacha, Rock&Roll, etc.
And the teacher recommended us to go to his studio to learn actual latin dances instead.
And so we went.
I guess I started there since I was in ending P5/ starting P6, but I did stop awhile for my PSLE.
And I returned to J&P after my psle and we did ChaCha, Rumba & Jive mainly.
I've wanted to learn the Samba then, but I have no idea why they aren't teaching us the samba.
And at the studio, when lessons start, we'll spend around 30-45mins doing body isolation and walks before getting into the choreographs.
I don't remember having a partner then because the height difference between me and my brother is too much.
So all I do in class is dancing by myself.
Lmao, a bit pathetic but usually there's more girls than guys in Latin dancing.
The after classes were really fun as my parents will have private lessons in the studio, and me and my siblings will just get food from the 7-11 downstairs and then get back up to the studio and eat.
And after that we'll play catching (AHAHAHAHAHAH OMG) around the buildings with the teacher's children, Germaine and Jaslyn and sometimes other people too but I forgot.
It was really fun because all the shops were closed on the studio floor so we'll just run around making noises. ㅋㅋ

Major events were J&P's dinner and dance, where we will put up a performance for.
I remember during my first D&D I know nothing about make up and costumes.
So I literally just went to perform with basic make up and basic clothes.
I HAVE NO IDEA HOW DID I DO THAT.
At that time, only my brother and his partner went for latin competitions, not the rest of the class, who are mainly solos.
Thus my parents talked to the teachers and suggested that letting us (the soloists) to go and compete.
And we went.
I guess my first competition was when I was in secondary 2.
Where again, I know nothing about competitions.
I just wore a costume gotten from bkk i think, and Its more of a dress than a costume.
Sighs.
And I forgot how many events I entered but I knew we didn't know how the whole competition goes.
So when its my event, I wasn't ready at the competitors area.
The MCs had to call our numbers and inform us that its our event.
And I just went into the dance floor by anywhere.
Lmao maybe I shouldn't do that. ㅠㅠ
And I didn't went into the finals, I went into the toilet and cried.
LOL I'M SERIOUS.
I forgotten the reason why we left the studio but we did.

We went to Wanna Rock & Roll Studios next.
I think I was in sec 3.
Technically speaking, back to the Studio since Teacher Eileen is from there too, but now we're going to have classes in the studio which will be taught by Teacher Andre.
I still remember how my parents were so angry because my mom wanted to consult Teacher Andre but he just walked pass her. Whut.
Anyways, so we went to the studio for lessons.
And guess what, I'm with the kids again.
I was the oldest in the class. What is this....

Kids in the studio

Its because I do not know their choreography and the class is starting to learn samba's chereo.
So it was my favorite dance then so yay.
I went for their internal competition with my girl partner because as I said there's much more girls than guys.
Lovely Shane you reading? ㅋㅋ
And like I was secretly judging this girl with a bag with a Kyuhyun badge which I don't know then.
Charmaine that's you. AHAHAHAHHA

And after the first internal competition, we took up private lessons to learn all the other dances choreo (Chacha Rumba and Jive).
My brother partnered my sister at this time so I went for national competitions as a soloist. Again.
I'm not sure whether did I've got any placing or did not even get into the finals.
Then we joined our first chingay, in chicken suits. AHAHAHHAAHHA.
Judging you Karenly because I forgot what happened. oops.
I've no idea how we've gotten close tgt with Sherianne, I forgot.

Karen-ly

Blur-est picture of us yet AHAHAH Sherlyane & Sherianne

And after chingay was this Malaysia Competition where the most of the students are going.
And my parents wanted to go too so we went. Oh wow.
I remember pulling Karen to go with us and then telling her that we're still considering AHAHAHHA.
Oh memories.
Before we went, I was supposed to only do Solo events but Aunty Diane asked me to go girl/girl events with Charlene and we did.

My two lovely ex-partners Charlene & Shane <3

We only had 3 private lessons and 1/2 practices before we head to Malaysia.
I think we damn zai. AHAHAH
I've not much hope on my solo events but I've more on the girl/girl events as compared to my solos because the Malaysian soloists are really strong.
A bit siao.
But then again, the soloists are the same as me and Charlene where they partnered up with each other for girl/girl events.
What... Is... This...
In short, all the competitors are really strong and in the first competition, I didn't even get into the semi-finals for my solo events and the finals for the girl/girl events.
For the second competition, I didn't get into the semis for my solo events again but we got into the finals for the girl/girl events.
We literally died after dancing because its ChaCha and Jive and we both are not good in Jive.
And we hate Jive because its sooooooo tiring.

And we're up against the younger girls in our studio as well as the Malaysian couples. zzz
When the results are announced, we're waiting for our names and number to be called and kept wondering if its the correct event.
Usually the last few placings will be announced first, so we kept thinking if its the wrong event because we didn't think of getting any good placings.
But in the end, we got third.
Yoohoo.
Third in three private lessons.
We're just laughing to each other after we got off the stage lmao what is this.
And so its a great start and we went for more girl/girl events and Ladies events in Singapore.
If we're good in luck, we'll get champions, if we're not, we'll get second.

After a while, my mom wanted me to go for Junior under 16 events with my brother and we went.
I've stopped my solo events by then as I was having two partnerships, one with Jasper and one with Charlene.
The first Junior competition, I think we got 5th? Or 4th.
As time goes by, we went to Novice events.
I swear Junior events are harder to win than Novice events.
We got 3rd for our first Novice event and we started to go for novice/ novice rising stars events instead.
It was the best for me at that time because I was doing really well in both partnerships.
In most of our competitions in 2011-2012 both partnerships will either be the champions of the event/s or top 3.

But Charlene that burden had to study for her Os so we ended our partnership for our events.
So I concentrated in competing with Jasper in Novice & Junior events.
But my parents do not like us doing the same choreography with the much younger kids.
And we've been doing the same choreography for...
Lets see 3/3.5 years.
My mom pulled us out even though we aren't happy at first.
But what can I do to my mom.

We went to learn under Andrey who's a Russian.
We finished 3/4 of our chacha choreography in one lesson.
The fastest we've ever gone.
Wow.
And under him, we went for our first competition even though we're not ready.
But my mom said 'later you two lose the competition feel.'
Lmao my mom for you.
And we got really bad placings.
We didn't get into Pre-am finals and we got 5th for our novice event.
And we slowly had improvement in our placings as more competitions came along.
And we started 2014 with overall champions in Novice/Pre-am events in Champions.
That was our first competition with all 5 dances.
Chacha rumba samba jive paso.
I almost died after paso. ㅠㅠ
And when they said they want a rerun of the event (chacha rumba and jive), I wanted to kill the organizers.
But they didn't so I didn't. ㅋㅋ
And our next competition will be in end June, till then, we'll be practicing every week.

ps. I initially wanted to write everything about my dance journey with other genres but I think its too long and I'm too long winded. Oops.
