Taiwan Grad Trip 2017 // Taichung

Hi, its March 2018, so time to post something due a year ago, Taiwan Grad Trip 2017 lol. image

Taichung tips:

We flew with scoot at midnight so we reached around 6/7am. It was so cold because I wore shorts. Totally not prepared for the weather then. We wanted to buy the SIM card with unlimited data but the store wasn't open yet so we decided to stay and hobo at the bus station in the airport.

And then some guy came and approached us asking where are we going, and we said Taichung. And he was like willing to fetch us to our Taichung hotel as he said he was going back to Taichung too. When we said we wanted to buy the unlimited data SIM card then he said it could be bought anywhere in Taiwan. WHICH WAS SO WRONG. image

We believed him tho, so we went ahead with him and we reached straight to our hotel at around 8+. He stopped us at some 豆浆油条  shop where we had our first meal in TW and he treated us to try this cold 豆浆 which was like fermented bean curd. meh.

And we reached our hotel too early so we couldn't check in, earliest was at 2pm. So we waited for a while in the lobby (more like hobo and nap on the table) before we headed out to walk around and to find SIM cards.

BUT GUESS WHAT >> the unlimited data SIM card can only be bought in Airport. imageimageimage
Once you leave the airport, all the SIM cards only offer 2-3GB of data at the same price WHAT. Argh stupid bus driver /cries. Decided that we could live without wifi and more like to depend on Jamie and Ethan who will buy the unlimited data when they're here. yay.

Proceeded with lunch because food more important. We ate at some bento place, which was some super cheap 卤肉饭. The portion was small but it was enough for me. The guys had two portion each tho haha.

Walked around somemore before heading back to check in. This is our hotel:

So proud that I booked this hotel, it was the better hotel compared to the Taipei one. We had two rooms, one with double bed and one with two double beds. Each room had a bathtub!! Yay love bathtubs. And the beds were soft and comfortable! We decided to rest a while after checking in as we reached super early. image

After that we went to a night market nearby, here comes the first day of street food hahah. And my 50岚, Taiwan's KOI!

Like the old school prata + hotdog + egg + tomato sauce

The chicken was meh

We went back early because the next day we had our day trip around Taichung.
If you need a driver, you can whatsapp this number at +886 958 860 205
For Taichung, 6 people its around 4000TWD ($180), additional hour is at 400TWD.
For Taiwan to Shifen/Jiufen, 8 person around 4500TWD ($203) but we didn't book it in the end.
Only booked for Taichung one. The car was comfortable and the driver's service was good!

This was our itinerary for Taichung (8hrs):
Rainbow village 彩虹眷村
Zhong She Flower Market 中社花市
Xinshe Castle 新社古堡
Taiwan Times Village 寶島時代村

The driver met us at our hotel, so on time and us being us, we do not have our breakfast yet. It was so early!! And the hotel didn't provide breakfast as well so we entered the car with empty stomach lol. But the driver was like asking us if we had our breakfast already or not so we replied no and he drove us to a nearby MacDonalds. yay. image

Took away a set and we headed to our first destination: Rainbow village 彩虹眷村.
Entry fee was free!

Then we headed to Zhong She Flower Market 中社花市, entry fee was 150 TWD. image
We're like taking photos halfway and it started to rain super heavily :(

The next stop was Xinshe Castle 新社古堡, entry was 250 TWD. The entry voucher includes some discount where we can redeem for a drink or a cake. So after taking some photos here and there, it started raining again. Thus we went to redeem our drinks and cake, yay.

Then, we wanted to head to Sun Moon Lake at first but considering that we had a time limit for the car if not we had to pay more, we decided to not go instead. The driver was like telling about what we can do there, what food we can eat, the seafood there is awesome etc. But i think he was quite disappointed when we said no, commission maybe? haha.

Then the driver suggested to head to this museum along the way called Taiwan Times Village 寶島時代村. Didn't even hear about the place before and entry was around 250 TWD? I'm not sure I forgot so I googled it lol.

And we ended our one day trip around Taichung! Our driver dropped us back at the hotel and we rested/napped for a while before getting a cab with the help of the hotel to Fengjia Night Market 逢甲夜市! image

Couldn't find 50岚 so had this instead :(

This was so good

The prawns is not worth the money :(

I love this my love

Cause me and Alvina wanted dessert lol

Btw, there is no subway/metro in Taichung only buses and cab so we cabbed to everywhere. We were like telling the driver on how hard is it to get a large cab and the driver was like, you guys can call me when you need a cab in Taichung. dayum. image

The next day was a free day, so we slept in (finally) and had brunch at Heicho cafe. Which happened to be super nearby the area that we visited on the first day. There is a min. order in cafes but it was brunch so everybody ordered something and we shared.

The rice was nice!

After that we walked to some natural park/ museum around the area where we spent like 2-3 hrs?! We did short dance cover too hahha before hogging some wifi to contact the driver. But the driver was out of Taichung so he got his brother to fetch us lol.

So we went on his brother's cab to head back to Fengjia Night Market for the last time and arrange for him to meet us at night to fetch us back to our hotel heheh. image

Fried enoki, such disappointment and a waste of my money :(

On the last day of Taichung we had to travel to Taipei so we checked out (bye lovely hotel) and took a bus to the train station. To find out that the train tickets for the day are sold out, ded. So no choice we had to drag our luggage to the bus station, more like their individual bus store/stops to take the bus. We also stop by the famous Taichung Miyahara 宮原眼科  for some ice cream to share!

Their ice cream names tho.

We also bought some bento onto the bus as our brunch and slept all the way to Taipei. Yay.

Finally done with Part 1 of the Taiwan trip, ded. Part 2 coming soon! (hopefully) image
