Mean Interviewers

I've been to quite a number of interviews since I've completed my contract with MFA, and I'm still looking for a job. But just yesterday I've went for the worst interview experience ever. I previously had one bad interview but it wasn't this bad. Let me get into the details.

I was approached by HAYS calling me asking me if I am interested for a Digital Marketing Role in a healthcare company so I went ahead and said yes. It was a senior healthcare company btw. And when I went for the first interview, the atmosphere of the office was so... down? It was like so dead, even the interviewer (another Marketing executive) seemed so down and uninterested at her job. Like she doesn't enjoy what she is currently doing.

So after the interview the HAYS recruiter called me and told me they wanted to schedule another interview tomorrow with the director. And first thought was: why can't they do it in one day when the director is so free. Second thought was to hold the interview first as I am not really interested.

It was Chinese New Year so it was okay, when one of the gov job that I really wanted rejected me. And the recruiter keep calling to ask me to go for the second interview. So I agreed.

The same executive showed me in and went to call her director while I was waiting in the meeting room. When he came in he went out again to on the air-con and even before he sat in his seat he asked me to tell me more about myself. I was like ok, so i started talking about myself, how I just ended my contract at MFA while dealing with mainly events. And he cut me of by asking do you have any marketing skills. Wow this person didn't even let me to finish I was going to get to that right.

I read this on the internet when I came back and this director fulfilled like 14/16 points.

Here we have mentioned, some of the top signs that indicate you of a bad interview
Now to begin with
  • If the interviewer is not looking at you or not maintaining an eye contact
Nope he totally did not
  • When the interviewer exhibits negative body language
He seems to be annoyed and frustrated the whole time
  • If the interviewer seems some what distracted
I was distracted by his negative body language too
  • When they never smile at you
He did not
  • When the interview ends abruptly or if they cut it short
When he finished whatever questions he wanted to ask me, he slam shut his paper folder and asked so aggressively if I have any questions for him. Lol I wanted to ask why are you such an asshole.
  • If the interviewer tries to be offensive
He was speaking in a very aggressive tone that I just wanted to walk out of the office.
  • Not allow you to answer fully and interrupts you often
He told me he wasn't very talkative and have no patience but that didn't meant that he can interrupt me in almost everything I say. He was like what is your strength? ---- ok elaborate, give me a situation and I was answering him and he cut me of halfway and asked what is your next strength????
  • Not very attentive to your answers
I doubt he actually processed what I answered him at all.
  • When the interviewer informs you about other qualified applicants in the list
Well this he didn't.
  • If the resume is been read just before you
He opened my resume for my name in the middle of the interview?
  • Pin point you directly on your weaknesses
Well he didn't.
  • Discuss not much about your skills, accomplishments etc
He just keep asking how am I going to learn things on the net and through youtube??? lol
  • Needle the negatives about the job
So he is the director of the company but he was telling me about how this company there isn't any clear SOP/ set templates. And also how this company has no directions... Isn't that your job as a director to set a direction?
  • Given no idea about the next steps of the recruitment process
I wasn't even considering what was the next step he just like ok I'll ask my executive to send you out....
  • You are given a cold -fish handshake
Thanks, he didn't even offered a peaceful handshake but he just walked off.
  • Asked to contact their assistant for further details
He just asked his executive to send me off.
I was just so turned off by this director which just told someone that is trying to interview for his company. And ChannelNewsAsia also just published this article which is so true. Commentary: When demeaning job interviews and bad bosses are still the norm

"Bosses need to understand that it’s not just them interviewing us – it’s a two-way process. Workers who are denied basic dignity will fight back, both offline and online, as Web Applications UK have discovered."

Well, I believe in Karma so good luck.
